Peepeekisis Cree Nation Celebrates Grand Opening of Peepeekisis Funeral Home

PEEPEEKISIS CREE NATION, Saskatchewan, Sept. 17, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Peepeekisis Cree Nation is proud to celebrate the official grand opening of the Peepeekisis Funeral Home, marking the realization of a community-driven vision to create a place where families can honour their loved ones with dignity, compassion and respect for their traditions.

Built by Peepeekisis Cree Nation, the new funeral home and crematorium has been thoughtfully designed to serve families from Peepeekisis Cree Nation, neighbouring Nations and communities throughout the surrounding region. The facility welcomes Indigenous and non-Indigenous families of all faiths and traditions.

The opening represents a significant milestone for a project first announced in 2024, when Peepeekisis Cree Nation shared its vision for a Nation-developed and operated funeral home that would allow families to mourn, gather and celebrate their loved ones closer to home.

At the heart of the facility is a commitment to ensuring the space can accommodate the needs and traditions of the families it serves. The funeral home includes the Great Hall for services and gatherings, as well as a dedicated outdoor ceremonial space where a teepee can be raised beneath the open sky.

This funeral home was built by our Nation, and its doors are open to every family. We are incredibly proud to welcome Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities into this space.”
